How was St. Anthony Hospital founded 114 years ago?
In the spring of 1898, two brave sisters traveled from Maryville, MO, to the Oklahoma Territory to beg for funds for one of their hospitals. When they arrived, the sisters learned of the need for a hospital in Oklahoma City, so they opened St. Anthony Hospital in August 1898. Read more of our remarkable story, including the number of medical firsts that St. Anthony has brought to Oklahoma in 114 years, on our
history and mission page.
What renovations have you completed at the cost of $250 million?
Many! In 2004, St. Anthony made the decision to stay in its Midtown Oklahoma City location. We worked closely with the City of Oklahoma City and Midtown businesses to revitalize the Midtown area including improving the streetscapes to make them more pedestrian friendly. The results have been amazing! Midtown is thriving as it was decades ago with new restaurants and other businesses.
Meanwhile in the heart of Midtown on our campus, we’ve been improving our facilities for our patients. Here are a few of the major investments and renovations completed:
What features make the surgical suites state of the art?
St. Anthony’s $30 million Margaret Vessels Love Surgery Center has 15 state-of-the-art operating rooms some of the largest, most advanced operating rooms in Oklahoma City. Specialized surgery suites include those for open heart, neurosurgery, urology and endovascular care.
We’ve also given special attention to designing three soothing, comfortable waiting rooms and a roof-top garden for families and friends while they wait for their loved one who is having a procedure.

What is an Affiliate Health Network and why is it important to patients?
In short, accessible health care. We believe that health care provided locally is best for our patients and the community, and we’re pleased to support the hospitals and physicians in the local communities through such services as a stroke network, specialty physician clinics, mobile diagnostics, telehealth services and more. Please see the list of 21 hospitals in our Affiliate HealthNetwork.
If a higher level of care is needed for patients than what may be offered locally, we work with the hospital affiliate to ensure a quick, seamless transfer to St. Anthony Hospital for the care needed.
We Believe in the Power of Prayer®. How will patients see evidence of this during their stays?
We believe that the healing presence of God reveals itself through our exceptional health care services...and through prayer. You’ll find plenty of evidence of St. Anthony’s faith-based mission in the actions of the compassionate people you’ll meet in our facilities.
We’re honored to pray for those in need. If there’s something you would like us to pray for, visit
www.sharetheprayer.tv and submit a prayer request to our employee Prayer Team.
What is a Freestanding Emergency Room and where are they located? How will I see a doctor sooner?
Freestanding emergency rooms are located at St. Anthony Healthplex East at I-40 and Douglas Boulevard and St. Anthony Healthplex South at I-44 and S.W. 134th Street. Both facilities provide full service, licensed emergency care, and patients receive the same level of care as they would receive in the ER on our main campus at St. Anthony Hospital. On average nationally, freestanding ERs typically have shorter wait times.

What is the “End of ER Waiting?"
In 2010, St. Anthony was the sixth hospital in the nation to introduce an innovative service called InQuickER. With InQuickER, for a non-life threatening condition you may hold your place in the ER online and skip the waiting room. The service allows you to wait at home or office for your selected time. Then, arrive at your designated time, and we guarantee you’ll see a physician within 15 minutes of the time you selected online.
The InQuickER service is offered at each of our ERs: St. Anthony Hospital in downtown Oklahoma City, St. Anthony Healthplex East, St. Anthony Healthplex South, and St. Anthony Shawnee Hospital.
For life threatening emergency call 911.

How is St. Anthony making healthcare more accessible?

From our two St. Anthony Healthplex campuses with 24/7 emergency rooms to our more than 150-member St. Anthony Physicians Group with primary care physicians and specialists in 35+ locations, our goal is to provide high quality patient care with reduced travel time to make health care more accessible.
