A Force for Good in Our Community

St. Anthony Hospital in downtown Oklahoma City has served the needs of Oklahomans for more than 100 years, offering a wide range of services in state-of-the-art facilities with physicians and staff who are dedicated to providing exceptional health care consistent with our mission. A recent report by the United Health Foundation found Oklahoma to be one of the unhealthiest states in our nation, ranked 48th based on measures of health outcomes, disease rates and access to care.This report summarizes St. Anthony’s plan to improve our community’s health status by addressing high-priority needs in mental health, substance abuse, heart disease, and obesity.




Our high-priority needs include:

Substance Abuse

How are we helping?

~ Focused continuing education and training on suicide, suicide prevention and substance abuse

~ Screening all patients who visit our Emergency Room for mental health issues

~ Staff provides “Crisis Intervention Team” training to police officers

~ Support school partnerships for student risk assessments

~ Increased awareness through media stories on mental health and substance abuse topics

Heart Disease

How are we helping?

~ Enhanced follow-up of heart failure patients who have been discharged

~ Building relationships with Long-Term Care and Skilled Nursing Facilities after heart failure patients have been discharged

~ Begin collaboration with specific home health agencies to assist with CHF management

~ Annual heart healthy eating public educational event

How are we helping?

~ Provide staff support and meeting space for a Weight Management Clinic that is free to eligible participants

~ Research grant opportunities to support future clinic operations beyond pilot years

~ Explore partnerships to provide obesity education through community outreach opportunities

~ Posting nutritional information for food options in the cafeteria, and highlighting healthy choices

~ Promote the Midtown Market at Saints, an outdoor farmers market
